What to Do if Your Tire is Defective

Next, you’ll want to submit a complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You can submit a report in three ways:

- Phone – call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at (855) 971-1662.
- Online – submit a report on safercar.gov.

Unfortunately, the NHTSA’s database does not order its search results by date. It will pull up not only recent recalls and complaints, but also recalls from as far back as the ’70s and ’80s. It can take a lot of weeding through pages of results to find complaints that are both current and applicable to your tires.
To stay up to date on the latest recalls, you can use the NHTSA’s safercar.gov app in the Google Playstore or the App Store or opt in to its email alerts. Still another good online resource for consumer tire complaints is Consumer Affairs. On its website, you can peruse others’ reports or submit your own.
